Chapter 10 - The Warmth of a New Dawn

The wedding was held on the shores of Lake Michigan, under a canopy of white roses and soft, flowing linen.
It was a small, intimate ceremony. Marco stood as Dominic’s best man, his face glowing with a genuine, proud joy for his lifelong friend. Clara and Mrs. Gable sat in the front row, wiping happy tears from their eyes.
Sofie walked down the aisle first, wearing a beautiful blue dress, throwing flower petals onto the sand with a serious, focused expression.
Then came Elena.
She was stunning in a simple, elegant lace gown, her dark blonde hair styled in soft waves, with a single, delicate blue ribbon woven into her braid.
As she reached the altar, Dominic took her hands. His fingers, once known only for violence, were warm, protective, and completely steady.
"I spent my life in the dark, Elena," Dominic said, his voice carrying over the gentle sound of the waves. "I thought the only way to survive was to build walls, to let no one inside. But a little girl with blue eyes showed me that there was still kindness left in my heart. You showed me how to live, how to love, and how to be the man my sister wanted me to be. I promise to protect you, to cherish you, and to love you through every storm we face."
Elena smiled, her eyes shining with happy tears.
"I spent my life trying to be strong enough for both of us, Dominic," she said, her voice clear and filled with love. "I thought I had to carry the world on my shoulders. But you showed me that I don't have to walk alone. You gave my sister her childhood back, and you gave me a future I never dared to dream of. I promise to stand by you, to believe in you, and to love you with everything I have."
The priest smiled, raising his hands.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife."
Dominic pulled Elena into his arms, his lips meeting hers in a deep, passionate kiss that signaled the absolute end of their long, cold winter.
The crowd cheered, and Sofie ran forward, throwing her arms around both of their legs, her happy laughter echoing over the water.
Dominic looked down at his wife and his sister, his heart finally full, his soul finally at peace.
