Chapter 7 - The Burning Empire
By midnight, the news channels were filled with footage of the Chicago waterfront in flames.
The Morettis had gone too far. In their desperation to destroy Dominic’s empire, they had turned the city into a war zone. But while they celebrated their apparent victory in their high-rise offices, Dominic was sitting at his computer, with Elena standing by his side.
"The tattoo was a string of sixteen characters," Elena said, pointing to the photograph of Frankie’s arm that Marco’s medical contact had just sent over. "He told me it was a hash key for a secure server based in Switzerland."
Dominic typed the characters into his terminal.
The screen flickered, a progress bar filling slowly as the connection bypass secured the routing.
With a soft chime, the database opened.
It was a treasure trove. Decades of financial transactions, illegal payoffs, smuggling manifests, and names—names of senators, police captains, judges, and federal agents who had been on the Moretti payroll for twenty years.
"This is it," Elena whispered, her hand resting on Dominic’s shoulder. Her touch was warm, sending a quiet jolt of energy through him. "This is how you destroy them."
"No," Dominic said, a cold, ruthless smile touching his lips. "This is how we clean the city."
He opened a secure communication channel, routing the data directly to the Assistant Director of the FBI in Washington, bypassing the local Chicago office entirely.
"By morning, every asset the Morettis own will be frozen," Dominic explained. "Every corrupt cop who protected them will be under arrest. Their empire won't just fall; it will be erased from history."

"And what about your empire, Dominic?" Elena asked, looking at him with concern. "Your warehouses... your clubs..."
"I’m letting them burn, Elena," Dominic said, turning to look at her. He reached up, his hand gently covering hers where it rested on his shoulder. "I’m tired of living in the dark. I want to build something that my sister would have been proud of."
