Chapter 10 - Home at Last

Two years after the blizzard.

The sun was setting over the rolling hills of the Charlottesville farm, casting a warm golden glow over the newly renovated farmhouse. A stone porch ran along the front of the house, decorated with blooming flower boxes and rocking chairs.

The front yard was filled with laughter.

My cousin Christopher, Claire’s parents, and several close friends from my old Army unit were gathered around a large wooden picnic table, enjoying a barbecue under the summer sky.

I stood near the porch rail, watching Lily—now a happy, energetic two-year-old—chasing a golden retriever puppy across the green grass.

Claire walked out of the house carrying a pitcher of lemonade. She wore a simple white summer dress, her eyes glowing with peace and complete happiness.

She came over to where I stood, leaning against my side.

"Penny for your thoughts?" she asked.

"I don't need a penny," I smiled, wrapping my arm around her shoulder and pulling her close. "I have everything I ever wanted right here."

We watched the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of crimson and violet.

The cold blizzard that had once threatened to freeze our world was gone forever. In its place remained a home built on truth, an unbreakable love, and a future that no one could ever steal again.
