Chapter 10 - Full Circle

One year later.
The Bennett backyard was filled with bright balloons, laughter, and the mouth-watering smell of a birthday cake. Banners hung between the trees reading: HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY, ELI!
Eli, now a chubby, energetic toddler with a head of soft curls, was crawling happily across the grass, chasing a red soft ball. His cheeks were rosy, his laughter echoed across the yard, and he was the absolute picture of vibrant health.
Claire stood on the patio watching him, a glowing smile on her face. Her hair was styled, her eyes were bright, and she looked strong, rested, and radiant. Beside her stood Daniel, holding a camera and wrapping his arm lovingly around her waist.
A car pulled up in the driveway, and Dr. Maya Chen stepped out, carrying a wrapped gift box tied with a bright blue ribbon.
“Dr. Chen!” Claire called out joyfully, walking down the steps to greet her.
“Please, Claire, I told you—call me Maya,” Maya laughed, hugging Claire warmly before kneeling down as Eli crawled over and patted her knee with his tiny hands. “Look at this big boy! One year old and completely unstoppable!”
“The cardiologist cleared him from all medication last month,” Daniel declared proudly, joining them. “His heart conduction matured perfectly. No arrhythmias, no spikes, nothing.”
“And how is the bravest mother I know feeling?” Maya asked, looking at Claire.
“I haven't had a single seizure or spike in nine months,” Claire said happily. “My brain is clear, my heart is full, and every single day with him feels like a miracle.”
They walked over to the picnic table where the birthday cake sat with a single lit candle. Friends and family gathered around as Daniel picked up Eli, holding him close to Claire.

As everyone began to sing the birthday song, Claire looked at her son’s chest, feeling the vibrant, strong thrum of his life against her hand. There were no shadows, no missing moments, and no fear left—only the deep, unshakable bond of a mother who had fought through the dark to save her child, and won.
Eli blew out his candle with a tiny puff, and the yard erupted into cheers and applause.
