Chapter 18 - The Renewal of Vows

Spring arrived in Lake Forest with an explosion of green grass, blooming tulips, and warm, gentle sunlight. The dark trials of the past winter had faded into legal history—Arthur and Mark Vance were both serving lengthy federal prison sentences for fraud, trespassing, and corporate sabotage, while Whitmore-Vance Global flourished under the foundation's oversight.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning in May. The grand lawn of the Lake Forest estate overlooking the lake was decorated with white silk canopies, archways of fresh white roses, and rows of mahogany chairs.

Today was Ethan and Grace’s wedding day.

Inside the master dressing room, Grace stood looking at herself in the mirror. She wore a breathtaking A-line lace wedding dress with delicate cap sleeves and a long, sweeping train. Her hair was styled in soft romantic waves, adorned with a delicate pearl comb.

A soft knock sounded at the door. Harrison Cole walked in, holding little Sophie in his arms, while Mrs. Gable held Jack, and two little ring-bearers—Noah and Lily—toddled inside wearing adorable tiny tuxedos and dresses.

"You look stunning, Grace," Harrison said, tears hovering in his eyes. "Ethan is waiting down by the lake. He looks like he’s about to faint from anticipation."

Grace laughed happily, kneeling down to hug Noah and Lily. "Are you two ready to walk mommy down the aisle?"

Noah let out a loud, happy "Yes!" while Lily giggled, clutching her tiny basket of rose petals.

Down by the lake, under a canopy of white roses, Ethan stood waiting. He wore an elegant black tailcoat tuxedo, his heart pounding with a joy he had never thought he would experience again.

The classical string quartet began to play a gentle renditions of Canon in D.

The guests stood up as Noah and Lily led the procession, throwing rose petals onto the green grass, followed by Mrs. Gable carrying Jack and Sophie.

Then, Grace appeared at the top of the stone steps.

Ethan’s breath caught in his throat. As Grace walked down the aisle toward him, the sunlight catching her ethereal beauty, Ethan felt a deep, overwhelming wave of love and gratitude wash over his entire soul.

When Grace reached the altar, Ethan stepped forward, taking her hands into his.

The magistrate smiled at them. "We are gathered here today to unite Ethan Whitmore and Grace Holloway in holy matrimony—a union born not only in love, but in resilience, faith, and the miraculous gift of family."

When it was time for the vows, Ethan looked directly into Grace’s gray eyes.

"Grace," Ethan spoke, his voice rich, emotional, and clear. "When my world fell apart in the dark, you were the light that showed me the way back. You gave my children life, you gave my heart healing, and you showed me that love is the greatest power on earth. I promise to honor you, protect you, and love you for all the days of my life."

Grace’s eyes overflowed with joyous tears as she held his hands tightly. "Ethan, you proved to me that true strength isn't built on power, but on the willingness to sacrifice and love unconditionally. You and these four children are my life, my home, and my sanctuary. I promise to stand by your side forever."

"By the power vested in me," the magistrate announced warmly, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Ethan, you may kiss your bride!"

Ethan pulled Grace into his arms, dipping her slightly as he kissed her deeply under the sunlit sky. The guests erupted into loud, joyful cheers and applause.

Ethan lifted Grace back up, holding her tightly as their four children toddled over, wrapping their arms around their parents' legs.

Ethan looked at his wife, then at his four healthy, laughing children, and finally at the sunlit lake.

The tomb was gone forever. The house was full of light, music, and endless love.
