Chapter 19 - The Garden of Miracles

Two years later.
The summer sun shone warmly over the estate in Lake Forest. The grounds had expanded to include an organic vegetable garden, a large playground with swings and slides, and a small wooden sailboat docked at the lake.
Noah, Lily, Jack, and Sophie were now three years old—energetic, bright, and endlessly curious toddlers who filled the estate with constant running, playing, and chatter.
Ethan stood near the wooden dock, wearing a casual linen shirt and jeans, helping three-year-old Jack and Noah steer a small remote-controlled boat across the calm blue water.
"Look, Daddy! The boat is going fast!" Noah cheered, jumping up and down in his little sneakers.
"Keep the wheel straight, buddy," Ethan smiled, guiding Noah’s hand on the controller.
On the lawn near the rose garden, Grace sat on a soft picnic blanket, wearing a yellow sundress. She was watching Lily and Sophie paint watercolor flowers on large paper pads.
Beside Grace sat a wicker bassinet. Inside lay a beautiful, healthy three-month-old baby boy with dark hair and bright blue eyes—little Claire-Ethan Whitmore Jr., affectionately called "Leo."
Grace leaned over the bassinet, softly stroking baby Leo’s chubby cheek. He let out a sweet gurgle, kicking his little feet in his blue sleeper.
Ethan walked over from the dock, leaving Noah and Jack playing under Harrison’s watchful eye. Ethan dropped down onto the blanket beside Grace, wrapping his arm around her waist and pulling her close.
"How’s my youngest son doing?" Ethan asked softly, leaning down to kiss Leo’s forehead before pressing a tender kiss against Grace’s lips.
"He’s perfect," Grace smiled, resting her head on Ethan’s shoulder. "He just ate a full bottle and he’s ready for his nap."
Three-year-old Lily ran over, clutching her watercolor painting, which was a chaotic, beautiful splash of yellow, pink, and blue paint. "Look, Mommy! Look, Daddy! I painted the sun!"
Ethan picked Lily up, setting her on his knee and inspecting the painting with great seriousness. "This is a masterpiece, Lily. We are framing this and putting it in my office tomorrow."
Lily giggled happily, kissing Ethan’s cheek before running back to play with Sophie.
Ethan looked out over the lawn at his five healthy children, then looked down at his beautiful wife resting comfortably in his arms.
"What are you thinking about, Ethan?" Grace asked softly, tracing her fingers along his palm.
"I was thinking about the night I sat in that dark nursery with the silver audio recorder," Ethan admitted quietly, his eyes filled with profound peace. "I thought my life was over, Grace. I thought I was just waiting to fade away."
Grace lifted her head, looking into his eyes with endless warmth. "And now?"

"And now I realize that grief was just the dark tunnel I had to walk through to find you," Ethan said, his voice thick with deep emotion. "You gave me a life beyond my wildest dreams, Grace."
"We gave each other a life, Ethan," Grace whispered, leaning up to kiss him deeply under the golden summer sun.
