Chapter 8 - The Confrontation

In a rare move, the judge allowed a victim impact statement before sentencing. I stood before the court, looking directly at Silas. He looked old, pathetic, and entirely defeated.

"You killed them for money you didn't even need," I said, my voice projecting to the back of the room. "You thought I was weak. You thought I was just a mother grieving. You forgot that a mother’s grief is a force of nature. I didn't just break your marriage, Silas. I broke your life. I am the reason you will never see the sun again."

He didn't look at me. He couldn't.
