Chapter 8 - Healing the Broken Shell

In the months that followed the destruction of the Moretti syndicate, Ravensport changed forever.
With Moretti dead and his network completely dismantled, Dominic Vale became the undisputed sovereign of the eastern seaboard. But instead of expanding the syndicate’s criminal empire, Dominic began a massive transition. Guided by Claire’s gentle influence, he began shutting down illegal operations, funneling billions into legitimate real estate, shipping, and civic development.
Villa Vale was no longer a cold fortress. It had become a home filled with warmth, flowers, and life.
On a warm spring morning, Claire sat on the sunlit terrace overlooking the sprawling estate gardens. She wore a soft lavender dress that hugged her curves, her dark hair pinned back with pearl clips. On the table before her lay blueprints for the Claire Bennett Haven—a massive, fully funded shelter and resource center for abused women and domestic workers that she was personally establishing in the city center.
Footsteps sounded behind her on the marble terrace.
Dominic walked out, wearing a comfortable white shirt and dark trousers. He walked up behind her chair, leaning down to kiss her soft neck, his broad hands resting gently on her shoulders.
"You've been working on those plans for three hours, my love," Dominic murmured warmly into her ear. "The architect said he will have the final structural report ready by Monday."
Claire smiled, leaning her head back against his chest, reaching up to stroke his cheek. "I want it to be perfect, Dominic. I want every woman who walks through those doors to know she is safe, valued, and strong."
"It will be perfect," Dominic said softly. "Because you are building it."
He walked around her chair, reaching into his pocket, pulling out a small velvet box. He knelt down on one knee right there on the stone terrace, beneath the warm spring sunshine.
Claire’s breath caught in her throat. Her heart beat wildly against her ribs.
Dominic opened the box. Inside sat a magnificent ring—a flawless three-carat canary yellow diamond set in an intricate band of platinum, glowing like a piece of captured sunlight.
"Claire," Dominic said, his dark gray eyes shining with an emotion so deep, so profound, that it brought tears to her eyes. "Two years ago, you walked into my dining room hiding your pain from the world. You thought you were invisible. You thought you were unworthy of love. But from the moment I truly saw you, you transformed my world. You taught me how to be a better man. You gave this cold house a heart."
He reached out, gently taking her hand, his thumb stroking her ring finger.
"I don't want to just protect you, Claire," Dominic whispered, his voice trembling slightly. "I want to honor you. I want to spend the rest of my life making sure you know how beautiful, how cherished, and how powerful you are. Will you marry me? Will you become the Queen of Ravensport?"
Tears of pure, overwhelming joy spilled down Claire’s cheeks. She didn't hesitate for a single second. She threw herself out of the chair and into his arms, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck, bringing him down to the floor with her as she kissed him passionately.

"Yes! Yes, Dominic! A thousand times yes!" she cried happily against his lips.
Dominic laughed—a rich, booming sound filled with complete happiness—as he slid the diamond ring onto her finger, sealing her answer with a kiss that echoed across the quiet, sunlit gardens.
