Chapter 10 - The Wedding on the Lake

Six months later.

The Grand Ballroom of the Drake Hotel overlooked the shimmering blue expanse of Lake Michigan.

The room was filled with hundreds of guests—city council members, labor union leaders, high-ranking police officials, and reformed members of Adrian’s West Side crew, all dressed in black-tie attire. The atmosphere was one of pure celebration, devoid of the fear and tension that had once dominated Adrian’s world.

Standing at the front of the altar, draped in white orchids and eucalyptus, was Adrian Vale. He wore a tailored black tuxedo, looking remarkably handsome, his posture proud and unshakeable as he stood alongside his brother Julian, who served as his best man.

The string quartet shifted into a soaring, elegant melody.

The grand double doors at the back of the ballroom opened.

A collective gasp echoed through the room.

Nora Hale walked down the aisle, holding a bouquet of white roses and dark greenery. She wore a breath-taking off-the-shoulder lace gown that fitted her toned frame perfectly, her dark hair styled in soft, cascading waves. She didn't look like a black-ops operative, nor a waitress. She looked like a queen stepping onto her throne.

Beside her, walking her down the aisle, was Cole Mercer—the former undefeated champion whom she had dropped in fourteen seconds. Cole wore a crisp tux, his former arrogance replaced by deep respect and a broad, proud grin as he escorted the woman who had transformed their world.

When Nora reached the altar, Cole handed her hand to Adrian, giving the mob boss a firm, respectful nod before stepping into the gallery.

Adrian took Nora’s hands in his. His slate-gray eyes were shining with tears he didn't bother to hide.

"You look breathtaking," Adrian whispered, his voice trembling with raw emotion.

"You don't look so bad yourself, Boss," Nora teased softly, her heart hammering with pure joy.

The minister stepped forward, smiling at the couple. "We are gathered here today to unite two extraordinary lives in the sacred bond of marriage. A union born not in quiet times, but forged through fire, loyalty, and unwavering devotion."

The minister turned to Adrian. "Adrian Vale, do you take Nora Hale to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?"

Adrian looked into Nora’s eyes, his voice booming clearly through the silent ballroom. "I do. I take her as my wife, my partner, and my equal. I promise to stand beside her in every battle, to build a life of peace, and to love her until my very last breath."

The minister turned to Nora. "Nora Hale, do you take Adrian Vale to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

Nora squeezed Adrian’s hands, a brilliant, radiant smile lighting up her face as tears of joy spilled over her lashes. "I do. I take Adrian as my husband, my sanctuary, and my home. He gave me back my life; I give him my heart for eternity."

"By the power vested in me by the State of Illinois," the minister declared, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Adrian, you may kiss your bride!"

Adrian didn't hesitate. He pulled Nora into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss that drew thunderous applause, cheers, and standing ovations from every corner of the ballroom.

Outside, the sun broke through the clouds, reflecting off the vast, beautiful expanse of Lake Michigan.

Hand in hand, Adrian and Nora Vale turned to face their friends, their family, and their future—unbroken, untamed, and forever united.
