Chapter 5 - Unmasking the Monster

Before Richard could react, I closed the distance between us in a fraction of a second.

My left hand flashed forward, grabbing the barrel of his nickel-plated gun and twisting it upward. The weapon discharged with a deafening crack, sending a bullet harmlessly into the plaster ceiling.

With a swift, practiced motion, I disarmed him, driving my thumb into the nerve cluster on his wrist. The gun clattered to the floor. Before he could scream, I grabbed him by his silk lapels, slammed him against the heavy mahogany desk, and pinned him down with a forearm against his throat.

Eleanor let out a horrified screech, falling back onto the sofa. "Don't touch him! You barbarian!"

"Be quiet, Eleanor," I said without looking at her, my weight pressing down on Richard’s windpipe just enough to keep him conscious, but utterly paralyzed with fear.

Richard choked, his eyes bulging as he stared up into my face. For the first time in his pampered, arrogant life, he was staring into the eyes of absolute, unyielding power—a force he couldn't bribe, threaten, or charm.

"Please..." Richard wheezed, tears finally spilling down his flushed cheeks. "Please... I'll give you money... millions... whatever you want... just let me go..."

"Money?" I asked softly, leaning down until my mouth was inches from his ear. "You think you can buy my daughter's blood back with money?"

I reached into my jacket and pulled out a small, encrypted tablet provided by Sarah. I propped it up on the desk right in front of his face.

The screen illuminated, displaying a live feed of federal agents raiding three offshore bank branches in Zurich and Grand Cayman, alongside images of heavy steel filing cabinets being removed from Vance Development Group’s headquarters.

"You see that, Richard?" I whispered. "That's your empire dying. Every dollar you embezzled, every bribe you paid, every offshore account you used to hide your filth—it’s all being seized right now under federal racketeering laws."

Richard’s face went pale white. "No... no..."

"And it gets better," I continued calmly. "Five minutes ago, Sarah released your private server files to the Department of Justice, the IRS, and every major news network in the country. The phone logs of you threatening Lily, the deleted police reports, the security camera footage from your hallway showing you dragging her by her hair—it’s all playing on live television right now."

Eleanor gasped, pulling out her phone with trembling fingers. She turned it on, and the bright screen reflected her horrified face as news anchors across the nation broadcasted the shocking fall of the Vance family.

"You're ruined, Richard," I said, easing the pressure on his throat just enough for him to gasp for air. "You're going to lose your money, your estate, your reputation, and your freedom. You will spend the rest of your life in a maximum-security federal prison, where the other inmates will know exactly what kind of man you are."

Richard began to sob hysterically, his arrogant facade completely collapsing into a pitiful heap of fear and cowardice.

I pulled him up from the desk by his collar and shoved him down onto the floor, where he curled into a fetal position—a pathetic mirror image of how he had left my daughter hours earlier.

The sound of blaring sirens echoed in the distance, growing louder as dozens of federal vehicles pulled up to the estate.

"That's your new life arriving, Richard," I said, stepping over him and walking toward the door. "Enjoy the ride."
