Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Promise

That evening, after a day filled with laughter, running in the yard, and a long walk along the beach, Alexander went upstairs to tuck the kids into bed.

He walked into Oliver's room first, kissing his sleeping son on the forehead, adjusting the soft blue blanket around his shoulders. Oliver mumbled something sweet in his sleep, clutching his favorite plush toy tightly.

Then, Alexander moved down the bright, wide hallway to Emma's room. Her door was wide open, letting the soft light from the hall spill across her floor. She was tucked in, her eyes sleepy but content.

Alexander sat on the edge of her bed, smoothing her hair back. "Sleep well, my brave girl."

Emma smiled, her small hand reaching out to wrap around his thumb. "Dad?"

"Yeah, sweetie?"

"Thank you for coming home that night," she whispered softly. "Thank you for listening."

Alexander leaned down, pressing a deep kiss to her cheek, holding her hand with an aggregate tenderness that would last a lifetime. "I'll always listen, Emma. From now until forever, I am always right here. The dark is gone, and it's never coming back."

As he stepped out of her room, leaving the door cracked open just the way she liked it, Alexander looked back at his children sleeping peacefully. The silence inside these walls didn't carry weight anymore. It was light, calm, and filled with the unbreakable promise of a father who had finally learned how to see.
