Chapter 3 - The Birth and the Shield

Two hours later, the sterile silence of the recovery room was broken by the most beautiful sound in the world: a sharp, healthy cry.

The nurse placed a tiny, squalling bundle onto Kaylee’s chest. He was small, wrapped tightly in a blue blanket, with a shock of dark hair and a fierce, stubborn grip that immediately wrapped around Kaylee’s finger.

Mateo collapsed into the chair beside the bed, burying his face in his hands as silent tears of pure relief broke through his iron composure. "He's here," Mateo choked out, gently stroking the baby's cheek. "He's safe."

"He's a fighter," Kaylee whispered, exhausted but fiercely alive, pulling her son closer.

The door clicked open. A federal agent in a sharp suit, accompanied by two local police officers, stepped quietly into the room. Behind them stood Marcus Vance, Kaylee’s newly retained attorney—and a specialist in corporate white-collar crime.

"Mrs. Solano—ah, Mrs. Miller," the lead agent corrected himself gently, flashing a badge. "I apologize for the timing, but your father’s corporate network has just been entirely seized under federal RICO provisions. Your sister was detained twenty minutes ago attempting to flee with the compromised hardware."

Kaylee looked up, her heart pounding. "My parents?"

"Your mother and father are currently facing charges of wire fraud, extortion, and assault with a chemical agent," Marcus Vance stated smoothly, stepping forward with a leather portfolio. "And thanks to the digital trapdoor you set up three years ago when you inherited those tech assets... their entire shell empire has been legally dismantled. They can never touch you, or your baby, ever again."
