Chapter 7 - Closing the Ledger

That evening, Kaylee sat at her grandfather’s old mahogany desk in the study.
On the center of the blotter sat the black hard wallet—factory reset, wiped clean, and stripped of its danger. Beside it lay the final paperwork from Marcus Vance confirming that the trust funds, the tech assets, and her family estate had been permanently sealed in an irrevocable trust bearing only her and Leo's names.
Mateo walked in, placing a hand on her shoulder and massaging the tension from her neck.
"Are you okay?" he asked softly.
"I am better than okay," Kaylee sighed, closing the leather folder with a soft, definitive snap. "For the first time in my life, the ledger is balanced. There are no debts left to pay."
