Chapter 10 - The Garden of Life

Three years later.
The sun shone brightly over a beautiful vineyard in the Napa Valley.
White silk ribbons fluttered gently in the warm breeze, tied to wooden chairs lined up along a green hillside overlooking rolling hills of grapevines.
Music played softly from a string quartet near the altar.
I stood before a full mirror inside the private dressing room, wearing a simple, breathtaking ivory silk wedding gown that flowed around my feet like liquid light. My hair was styled in soft waves, adorned with delicate sprigs of fresh lavender.
There were no white roses in sight.
My father walked into the room, wearing a sharp black tuxedo, his eyes shining with proud tears as he saw me.
"You look stunning, my little girl," my dad whispered, holding out his arms.
I stepped into his embrace, hugging him tightly. "Thanks, Dad. Thanks for standing by me through everything."
"Always, Claire," he smiled, pulling back to wipe a tear from his cheek. "Now, come on. There’s a very good man waiting for you out there."
I took my father’s arm, stepping out of the dressing room into the warm afternoon sunshine.
As the string quartet shifted into the bridal march, the guests stood up, smiling and clapping. Among them sat Rachel Kim, smiling broadly, alongside friends, colleagues, and family who had walked through the dark valley with me.
At the end of the aisle, standing under an archway woven with lavender and eucalyptus, stood Marcus.
He looked handsome in his dark suit, his eyes fixed entirely on me, shining with a love so pure, so steady, and so absolute that it made my breath catch in my throat.
I walked down the aisle, every step taking me further away from the shadows of the past, and closer to the bright, beautiful future I had fought so hard to reclaim.
My father handed my hand to Marcus, kissing my cheek before taking his seat.
Marcus took my hands in his, his fingers warm and steady.
"You are the most incredible woman I have ever known, Claire," Marcus whispered softly, his voice trembling with emotion.
"And you are my home, Marcus," I answered, smiling through tears of pure, radiant joy.
The minister spoke warm words of love, strength, and rebirth, until finally, he smiled at us both.
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Marcus, you may kiss your bride."
Marcus pulled me gently into his arms, dipping me slightly as he pressed his lips against mine in a sweet, passionate, joyful kiss that echoed through the hills.

The guests erupted into joyous applause and cheers, throwing handfuls of fresh flower petals into the air.
Hand in hand, Marcus and I walked back up the aisle together into the bright, warm sunshine—free, triumphant, and deeply in love, ready to spend the rest of our lives building a future that no lie could ever touch.
