Chapter 10 - The Vow on the Lake

Six months later. June.
The afternoon sun blazed golden over the waters of Lake Como in Northern Italy. The private estate, situated on a high cliff overlooking the sapphire water, was decorated with thousands of white roses and pale silk drapes that fluttered gently in the warm alpine breeze.
It was not a high-society event. There were no press vans, no corporate investors, no socialites trying to score photo opportunities.
There were only twenty people present—our closest friends, the security guards who had helped protect us, and our three children, who were currently running wildly across the pristine green lawn in their formal flower-girl and ring-bearer outfits.
I stood in front of a full-length mirror inside the estate’s master suite, adjusting the lace sleeves of my simple, elegant ivory silk gown.
A knock sounded at the open door.
I turned to see Sebastian standing on the threshold. He wore a crisp black tuxedo, looking so impossibly handsome it took my breath away just as it had when I was nineteen years old.
"You're not supposed to see the bride before the ceremony," I said, a soft smile playing on my lips.
"I spent four years not seeing you, Maya," Sebastian said, walking slowly into the room, his eyes fixed on me with a burning, tender devotion. "I'm done following rules."
He reached me, taking both of my hands in his. He looked down at the simple platinum band he had slipped back onto my finger earlier that morning—the original ring from our Soho loft days, which he had recovered from his private safe.
"Are you ready?" he asked softly.
"I've been ready for four years, Sebastian," I replied.
Hand in hand, we walked out onto the sunlit terrace overlooking the breathtaking expanse of Lake Como.
The ceremony was short, spoken not from a legal script, but from the raw, beautiful truth of two souls that had been broken, scattered by tragedy, and rebuilt by an unbreakable love.
"Four years ago, I thought I lost my world," Sebastian said, his voice trembling slightly as he held both my hands under the clear blue sky. "I lived in darkness, believing I was cursed. But you fought through the storm, Maya. You raised our children with courage, grace, and a love that puts every empire on this earth to shame. I don't promise you a life without battles... but I promise you that every battle from this day forward, we fight together. You are my wife. My queen. My home."
Tears spilled over my lashes as I looked up into those storm-gray eyes that I had missed for so long.
"I thought love was fragile, Sebastian," I said, my voice strong and clear. "I thought it could be destroyed by papers, by lies, and by cruel old men. But looking at you today, looking at our children... I know that real love isn't a fragile thing. It's a fortress. And ours is unbreakable."
"By the power vested in me," the officiant smiled warmly, "I now pronounce you husband and wife again. Sebastian, you may kiss your bride."
Sebastian didn't hesitate. He pulled me into his arms, dipping me slightly as his lips met mine in a deep, passionate kiss that carried all the weight of our lost years, all the joy of our present, and all the radiant promise of our future.
Around us, our friends cheered, and three little voices erupted into giggles as Owen, Ivy, and Noah threw fistfuls of white rose petals into the air.
As Sebastian pulled back, resting his forehead against mine, he looked into my eyes with a bright, beautiful smile.

"Welcome home, Mrs. Vale," he whispered.
"Welcome home, Mr. Vale," I laughed, leaning up to kiss him once more under the golden Italian sun.
