Chapter 6 - The Bloodline's Price

"Touch my children, and I will tear your throat out," I hissed, holding the knife out in front of me with both hands, my body trembling with adrenaline.

Arthur chuckled—a dry, rattling sound that sounded like dead leaves blowing across concrete. "Your children? You mean my bloodline. The Vale heirs."

"They are NOT yours!" I shouted.

"They carry my DNA, girl," Arthur sneered, leaning both hands on his silver cane. "Sebastian was weak. He inherited his mother's pathetic emotional sentimentality. He wasted four years grieving for a beggar girl when he should have been expanding our holdings in Asia. But those three little creatures sleeping in the next room... raised properly, under my direct supervision, away from your trashy influence... they could rule Wall Street for the next century."

"They will never know you exist," a cold, thunderous voice rang out from the shadows of the hallway.

Arthur didn't even turn around as Sebastian stepped into the light.

Sebastian was holding a sleek black tactical pistol, his arm completely steady, his eyes fixed on his grandfather’s spine. Behind him, three of Arthur’s mercenary guards lay unconscious on the floor of the private study—Sebastian had neutralized them before they could reach the main living area.

"Put the cane down, Arthur," Sebastian said, his voice so quiet it was terrifying. "Or I put a bullet through your kneecap."

Arthur slowly turned around, facing his grandson. There was no fear in the old man's face—only the supreme, arrogant confidence of a man who had controlled people's lives for nearly a century.

"You won't shoot me, Sebastian," Arthur said smoothly. "If I die today, the automatic trust triggers in Zurich will instantly release fifty percent of Vale Holdings stock onto the open market. The company will be dismantled by Chinese hedge funds before my body is cold in the morgue. You'll lose everything."

"You think I give a damn about the stock?" Sebastian took three slow steps forward, closing the distance until the barrel of his gun was pressed directly against Arthur's forehead. "You made me believe my wife was dead. You made me grieve for my unborn children for four years. I don't care about Vale Holdings, Arthur. I care about destroying you."

Arthur's smirk finally faded. For the first time, a flicker of genuine terror crossed the old man's pale gray eyes as he realized his grandson had completely abandoned the cold rationality that had governed his life.

"Sebastian..." Arthur whispered, his breath coming faster. "Think about your legacy—"

"My legacy is in that bedroom," Sebastian growled, his finger tightening on the trigger. "And you will never see them again."

"Sebastian, NO!" I screamed, dropping the knife and rushing forward, grabbing his gun arm with both hands. "Don't do it! Don't ruin your life for him!"

Sebastian stiffened, his breathing heavy and ragged. He looked down at me, his eyes wide and unhinged.

"Maya... he tried to kill you," Sebastian whispered. "He stole our life."

"If you shoot him, you go to prison for the rest of your life!" I sobbed, pulling on his arm with all my weight. "Our children just met their father today! Don't let him take you away from them again! Please, Sebastian... please!"

The room was deathly quiet, broken only by the sound of my ragged sobs and the distant blare of police sirens approaching the building from the street below.

Slowly, agonizingly, Sebastian lowered the gun.

He looked back at his grandfather, his expression hardening into something far worse than death.

"You aren't going to die today, Arthur," Sebastian whispered in the old man's ear. "You're going to spend every remaining day of your life in a supermax federal facility for corporate conspiracy, kidnapping, and attempted murder. I bought the attorney general three hours ago."

The double doors of the penthouse burst open as the Federal Bureau of Investigation tactical team—led by officers loyal to Sebastian's private network—swarmed the apartment, swarming over Arthur’s remaining guards and pinning the old patriarch against the marble floor.
