Chapter 10 - The Queen's Realm

One year later.

The summer sun beamed down over the grand estate along Lake Michigan.

The Rossi family was officially a memory in Chicago—their assets seized, their captains absorbed into the Valenti network, and Dominic serving twenty-five years in a federal penitentiary in Illinois.

Chloe had been exiled from the Blake family estate, working as an entry-level clerk at a small logistics firm in Indiana, stripped of all family funds.

On the manicured lawn of the Valenti estate, a grand celebration was underway.

The occasion was the opening of the Clara Valenti Maritime Center—a fifty-million-dollar modern port facility that had turned Chicago into the premier trade hub of the Great Lakes.

Clara stood on the terrace overlooking the lake, wearing a stunning floor-length sapphire-blue silk dress that shimmered in the sunlight. She looked radiant, confident, her body curves celebrated by the elegant cut of the dress, her emerald ring sparkling on her left hand.

A pair of warm, strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind.

Lorenzo pressed his lips against her neck, resting his chin on her shoulder as they watched the ships glided across the blue water.

"You're thinking about the bridal shop again," Lorenzo murmured against her skin.

Clara chuckled softly, leaning back against his chest, placing her hands over his. "A little bit. I was thinking about how terrified I was that day. I thought my life was going to be small, hidden away in a suburban house, feeling like an embarrassment."

Lorenzo turned her around in his arms, looking down into her eyes with an intensity that had only grown deeper over the past year.

"You were never meant to be hidden, Clara," Lorenzo said softly, cupping her face in his hands. "You were born to rule."

Clara smiled, reaching up to press a tender kiss against his lips.

"I love you, Lorenzo," she whispered.

"I love you, my Don," Lorenzo replied, pulling her close against his heart. "More than the city. More than the empire. Forever."

As the sun began to set over Lake Michigan, painting the sky in shades of gold and deep violet, Clara Blake—now Clara Valenti, the undisputed Queen of Chicago’s harbor—stood tall beside the man who loved her completely, knowing she would never shrink herself for anyone ever again.
