Chapter 9 - The Raven's Wrath

A heavy tactical truck smashed straight through the brick security wall of the garage!
Dozens of Valenti soldiers dropped from the vehicle, moving with military precision, flanking Dominic’s men within eight seconds. The sound of heavy gunfire echoed through the concrete structure, ending the ambush before it even truly began.
Dominic’s men dropped their weapons, falling to their knees with their hands behind their heads.
Then, from the back of the tactical truck, Lorenzo Valenti stepped out.
He wore a dark long coat, a long-barreled automatic rifle resting casually against his hip. His face was a mask of pure, murderous fury, his amber eyes burning like molten iron in the dark garage.
Dominic dropped his pistol, his knees knocking together in utter terror as Lorenzo walked toward him.
"Lorenzo... please!" Dominic whimpered, backing away until his spine hit the concrete wall. "It was just a negotiation! I was just trying to talk to her!"
Lorenzo didn't say a word.
He walked up to Dominic, raised his heavy combat boot, and kicked Dominic straight in the chest!
CRACK!
Dominic flew back three feet, slamming onto the concrete floor, coughing up blood as two ribs cracked under the force of the blow.
Lorenzo raised his rifle, pointing the barrel straight between Dominic’s eyes.
"Lorenzo, wait," Clara’s voice rang out through the garage.
Lorenzo paused, his finger resting on the trigger, his breathing heavy as he looked over his shoulder at Clara. "He laid a hand near you, my love. He dies tonight."
Clara walked over to her husband, placing her soft hand over the cold steel of the rifle barrel, gently lowering it down.
She looked down at Dominic, who was grovelling on the concrete, gasping for air, clutching his broken ribs, looking pitiful, small, and utterly broken.
"Death is too quick for him, Lorenzo," Clara said softly, her voice echoing in the quiet garage. "Let the federal prosecutors take him. The evidence of his father's money laundering and human trafficking at the southern docks was sent to the FBI twenty minutes ago."
Dominic looked up at Clara, his eyes filled with horror. "You... you set this up?"
"I knew you were desperate enough to try something stupid, Dominic," Clara said, standing tall beside her husband. "Your father is being arrested right now. You’re going to spend the next thirty years in a federal prison cell, where you can think about how 'big' my life really is."

Lorenzo looked at his wife, a proud, dark smile spreading across his lips.
He tossed his rifle to a lieutenant, reached out, and pulled Clara into his arms, kissing her fiercely in the middle of the ruined garage while his men led Dominic away in chains.
