Chapter 9 - The Garden of Resilience
A year after the trial, the park was complete. A monument had been erected—not to the Thorne name, but to the resilience of those the family had hurt. Evelyn and Sophie went to the dedication ceremony.
There were no Thornes there. No society people. Just families, children, and the sound of music playing in the afternoon light.
Evelyn looked at the plaque. It didn't mention her brother or her parents. It mentioned the community that had survived.
She felt a hand on her shoulder. It was Julian.
"You look different, Evelyn," he said.
"I feel different," she replied.
"They're asking if you'll speak."

Evelyn looked at the crowd. She wasn't the lamb. She wasn't the wolf. She was just a mother, standing in the sunlight, knowing that she had built a world where no one could hurt her daughter again.
"I have nothing to say to them," she said, taking Sophie’s hand. "I’ve already said everything I needed to."
