Chapter 10 - The Unforgettable Life

Eduardo dropped slowly to one knee on the lush green grass of our backyard.
The music seemed to fade into the background. My friends gasped softly, setting their drinks down, while Miguel and Mateo ran over, watching their favorite person in the world with wide, excited eyes.
"Camila," Eduardo said, his voice rich with emotion, his dark eyes shining with tears. "A year ago, I walked into your life hoping to help a mother fight for her children. I never expected that in saving your home, you would give me mine."
He opened the velvet box. Inside rested a stunning, radiant-cut emerald ring surrounded by a halo of brilliant white diamonds—a quiet, breathtaking nod to the green dress I had worn on the night our journey began.
"You are the strongest, most graceful, and most magnificent woman I have ever known," Eduardo continued, taking my trembling hand in his. "Miguel and Mateo are the lights of my life. I don't want to just be the man who helped you fight your past. I want to be the man who builds your future."
He looked into my eyes, his voice steady and clear.
"Camila... will you marry me?"
"Yes!" Miguel shouted before I could even open my mouth. "Say yes, Mommy!"
Mateo clapped his hands excitedly. "Yes! We want Eduardo to stay forever!"
The entire backyard erupted into laughter and joyful applause.
Tears of overwhelming, unadulterated happiness spilled down my cheeks as I knelt down on the grass in front of Eduardo, taking his face in my hands.
"Yes, Eduardo," I wept, kissing him with all the love and gratitude in my heart. "A thousand times, yes."
He slid the emerald ring onto my finger—a perfect, gleaming symbol of our strength, our rebirth, and our unbreakable bond. He pulled me up into his arms, lifting me slightly as our friends cheered and the boys threw handfuls of grass into the air like confetti.
Later that evening, after the guests had left and the boys were tucked safely in their beds upstairs, Eduardo and I sat together on the front porch swing.
The night sky was clear, filled with a million brilliant stars. The breeze blew gently through the leaves of the oak tree.
I rested my head on Eduardo’s shoulder, his arm wrapped tightly around me, my hand resting over his heart. The emerald on my finger caught the moonlight, glowing softly in the dark.
Marcelo had invited me to a wedding hoping I would feel small, hoping to break the last pieces of my spirit in front of the world.
He had expected a defeated woman.
Instead, his cruelty had opened the door to the greatest blessing of my life. I had walked into that ballroom broken, but I had walked out unforgettable—with my home restored, my children protected, and a love that would last for the rest of my days.
"Happy, my love?" Eduardo whispered into the quiet night, pressing a soft kiss to my forehead.

I looked out across the peaceful street, feeling the warmth of my home behind me and the strength of the man beside me.
"I am home, Eduardo," I smiled, closing my eyes in complete peace. "I am finally home."
