Chapter 2: The Double Rebellion

Reid took three staggered steps forward, his hands trembling as he stared down at the stroller. The baby boys blinked up at him, one of them letting out a soft, tiny yawn while gripping a blue blanket.
"Claire..." Reid choked out, his voice completely stripping away his billionaire persona. "What... what is this? Who are they?"
"They are my sons, Reid," Claire replied, her voice smooth, calm, and utterly devoid of emotion. She didn't look angry; she looked like a CEO delivering a quarterly report to an underperforming employee. "This is Ethan and Caleb. They were born exactly three weeks ago."
"Sons?" Reid’s breath left his body in a sudden, violent rush. He looked at the twins, then back at Claire, his mind frantically calculating the timeline. Nine months. The courthouse. The night before she packed her bags. "Why didn't you tell me? You knew I wanted an heir! You knew the board—"
"You chose your heir when you chose a runway model, Reid," Claire interrupted, her words cutting through the crowded lobby like a scalpel. Several executives and security guards pretended to look away, but every ear was strained to catch the drama. "The day we stood outside that courthouse, I didn't know I was pregnant. I found out four days later. I called your attorney to set up a private meeting, but your lovely fiancée answered your phone. She told me that if I ever tried to use a fake medical condition to trap you or extract money, she would have her PR team destroy my family's reputation."
Reid’s head snapped toward the entrance, where Marissa had just walked in from the parking garage. Marissa froze, her eyes darting from Claire to the double stroller, the color instantly draining from her perfectly contoured face.
"Marissa..." Reid hissed, a dangerous, icy fury building in his chest. "Is this true?"
"Reid, honey, she’s lying!" Marissa stammered, rushing forward, her heels slipping slightly on the marble. "She’s trying to cause a scene to ruin our wedding launch! How do we even know those babies are yours? She could have slept with anyone after the divorce!"
Claire let out a soft, elegant laugh that sent a shiver down Reid’s spine. It was a laugh of absolute power. "I don't need to lie, Marissa. And I certainly don't need a DNA test to prove their lineage. But more importantly, I didn't come here today to demand child support from Reid. I don't need his money."
She stepped closer to Reid, tapping a biometric thumbprint onto a thick digital tablet she held, activating a secured legal document.
"I came here to deliver a notice of a hostile corporate takeover," Claire said smoothly. "You see, Reid, you forgot that the core automation software that runs Ashford Meridian’s entire global shipping matrix was built using my father's proprietary patents. When we divorced, you legally signed over the 'inactive' tech shell companies to me, assuming they were worthless. Over the last nine months, I partnered with Vanguard Logistics. As of 2:00 PM today, my trust officially controls fifty-one percent of Ashford Meridian’s primary voting shares. I am now the majority shareholder of your empire."

Reid stared at her, his jaw dropping as his world tilted on its axis.
"And as majority shareholder," Claire whispered, leaning in so only he could hear the sweet, merciless venom in her voice, "my first official act is to call an emergency board meeting to review your position as CEO. Welcome to the warm-up, Reid."
