Chapter 10 - A Legacy Written in Gold

One year later.
The summer sunset painted the sky over Lake Michigan in brilliant hues of gold, crimson, and soft lavender.
The gardens of the Russo estate were filled with three hundred guests, fragrant white roses, and the sweet, soaring melodies of a live string quartet.
Chloe stood in front of a full-length mirror inside the master suite, putting the finishing touches on a breathtaking lace wedding dress. The gown flowed elegantly around her frame, trailing softly behind her like white silk foam.
Around her neck hung a delicate diamond necklace—a heirloom that had belonged to Eleanor Russo.
"You look like an angel, my dear," a soft voice spoke from the doorway.
Chloe turned. Arthur stood there, holding a small bouquet of white orchids. He looked healthy, peaceful, and impeccably dressed in a black tuxedo.
"Arthur," Chloe smiled, tears of joy sparkling in her eyes as she walked over to give him a gentle hug. "Thank you for walking me down the aisle."
"It is the greatest honor of my life, Chloe," the old man whispered, his eyes clear and full of deep, paternal love. "Dominic is the luckiest man in the world."
The wedding ceremony took place on the stone terrace overlooking the calm blue lake.
As the string quartet played a sweet bridal processional, Chloe walked down the flower-strewn aisle on Arthur’s arm. The guests stood up, smiling warmly, but Chloe’s eyes were fixed entirely on the man standing at the altar.
Dominic stood under an archway of white roses, looking impossibly handsome in a custom black tuxedo. As he watched Chloe approach him, the formidable shadow titan of Chicago dissolved completely, replaced by a man looking at his bride with pure, unadulterated devotion and tears glistening in his gray eyes.
When Arthur placed Chloe’s hand into Dominic’s, Dominic squeezed her fingers tightly, bringing them to his lips for a soft, lingering kiss.
"You take my breath away, Chloe," Dominic whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
"I love you, Dominic," she replied softly.
The minister smiled warmly at the couple. "We are gathered here today to unite two hearts brought together by extraordinary kindness, unwavering courage, and a love that has reshaped lives."
After exchanging vows that promised protection, honor, and eternal devotion, Dominic pulled a golden ring set with a flawless emerald from his pocket—a symbol of new beginnings.
He slid the ring onto Chloe’s finger, looking deep into her eyes.
"With this ring," Dominic vowed, his voice echoing across the quiet lake, "I give you my heart, my empire, and my life. I promise to cherish you, protect you, and love you for every day of my existence."
"By the power vested in me," the minister announced, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Dominic, you may kiss your bride!"
Dominic wrapped his long arms around Chloe’s waist, pulling her flush against his chest, and brought his lips down to hers in a deep, passionate, sweeping kiss that sealed their love forever.
The crowd erupted into joyous applause! White rose petals rained down from above as Arthur cheered loudly from the front row, throwing his hands in the air with pure happiness.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the lake in golden light, Dominic kept his arm securely wrapped around Chloe’s waist as they walked back up the aisle together as husband and wife.
Chloe looked up at her husband, then back at Arthur, and finally out at the endless horizon of Lake Michigan.
The thirty-eight dollars in her bank account, the freezing rain, and the cold alley were gone forever. In their place stood an unbroken empire of love, a sanctuary that fed thousands of forgotten souls, and a future brighter than the stars above Chicago.

Dominic leaned down, kissing her temple softly as they stepped into the grand hall of their home. "Welcome home, Mrs. Russo."
"I'm already home, Dominic," Chloe smiled, holding his hand tight as they stepped into their forever.
