Chapter 7 - The Eviction

The foreclosure and eviction process moved with ruthless efficiency. Since the townhouse mortgage had been default-managed and the equity drained by Brian and Eleanor’s fraudulent loans, the bank repossessed the property, selling it at auction to clear the titles.

A crisp autumn morning found Eleanor standing on the sidewalk of Elm Street, surrounded by three large cardboard boxes containing the meager remnants of her personal belongings. Her designer handbags and expensive coats had already been seized or sold to pay down a fraction of her legal fees.

She watched as the new owners' moving truck backed up into the driveway—the very driveway she had lorded over for years, calling it the "family estate."

Chloe drove by slowly in her new sedan, stopping briefly at the stop sign at the corner of the street. She didn't gloat. She didn't roll down her window to yell or wave. She simply looked at the woman who had tormented her, felt a profound sense of utter closure, and pressed down on the gas pedal, driving past them toward her bright, unburdened future.

Eleanor turned away, weeping tears of pure humiliation, realizing too late that her cruelty and greed had destroyed everything she claimed to be protecting.
