Chapter 10 - Healing the Fragments

The nightmare of courtrooms and legal battles was finally behind us, but the work of repairing our broken lives was just beginning.

I immediately resigned from my high-travel project management corporate role. Money was no longer my primary metric of success—my family’s safety and presence were. I took a local, remote-friendly management position that paid less but guaranteed I would be home every single day at 4:00 PM.

We purchased a charming, sunlit single-story home on the outskirts of Phoenix—far away from the concrete high-rises and busy streets of our old life. The new home had a massive backyard with fruit trees, a green lawn, and wide windows that let the desert sunshine flood every room.

Jessica began weekly therapy sessions with a specialist in trauma recovery. Day by day, as the toxic sedatives completely left her bloodstream and her mind cleared, her true vibrant spirit began to return. Her appetite came back, her skin regained its healthy glow, and the laughter that had been silenced for a year began to echo through our hallway once more.

For Olivia, healing came in smaller steps.

For the first few months, she was terrified of warm water and hesitated every time she walked past a kitchen sink. But with endless patience, love, and professional child play therapy, her fear gradually softened.

I built a custom playhouse for her in the backyard, fitted with tiny plastic tea sets and soft wooden toys. There were no chores, no harsh demands, and no loud voices—only the unconditional safety of a loving home.
