Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Siege

The high-rise glass tower of Voss Enterprises dominated the Chicago skyline, gleaming like a blade of obsidian in the morning light. Reporters, news vans, and flashbulbs crowded the plaza outside as Roman’s armored convoy pulled up to the main entrance.

Security personnel formed a human wall, clearing a pathway as Roman and I stepped out. I was dressed in a tailored navy-blue suit provided by Roman's team, my chin held high, my stride confident despite the deafening roar of shouting journalists and flashing cameras.

“Mr. Voss! Is it true the children are not Julian’s?” “Miss Hayes! Are you suing the Voss estate?”

We ignored the noise, sweeping through the marble lobby and taking the private express elevator to the 50th floor—the executive boardroom.

When the double glass doors of the boardroom opened, the twenty members of the Voss Board of Directors fell silent. At the far end of the long mahogany table sat Victoria Voss.

She was in her late fifties, impeccably groomed, wearing an ivory tweed suit and pearl necklace. Her icy blue eyes locked onto me, filled with a mixture of aristocratic disdain and cold venom.

"Roman," Victoria said smoothly, rising gracefully from her chair. "You bring a waitress into the sanctum of our corporate board? This meeting was meant to be a private family matter regarding the custody and trust administration of Julian’s orphaned children."

"This meeting is a family matter," Roman replied, his voice calm, chillingly precise as he guided me to a seat directly across from her. "Which is why the biological mother of the heirs is present."

Victoria chuckled softly, a dry, mocking sound. "Biological mother? Roman, really. I know you are desperate to retain control of your late brother's voting shares, but parading a grieving, unstable woman who suffered a tragic stillbirth at a public clinic is low, even for you."

"A stillbirth you bought, Victoria," I spoke up, my voice cutting through the hushed room like a razor.

Victoria’s blue eyes snapped to mine, her smile faltering for a fraction of a second. "Excuse me?"

I opened the leather briefcase in front of me, pulling out a thick stack of verified documents and tossing them across the polished table.

"Those are the audited financial trails linking your personal offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands to Dr. Aris Thorne," I stated clearly, matching her icy gaze point for point. "Along with sworn affidavits from the transport pilots who flew my stolen babies to Geneva under your direct authorization."

The boardroom erupted into frantic murmurs. Board members scrambled to grab copies of the documents, their faces turning pale as they scanned the ironclad evidence.

Victoria’s composure cracked. Her knuckles turned white as she pressed her hands against the mahogany table. "This is absurd! These are forged! Roman, you engineered this extortion!"

May you like

"I didn't forge anything, Victoria," Roman said, stepping up to the head of the table, towering over everyone in the room. "And as of ten minutes ago, the FBI and the Department of Justice were handed identical copies of these files. They are currently executing a search warrant on your residence."

Victoria froze, her breath catching in her throat as the color completely drained from her face.
