Chapter 8 - Whispers of the Heart

In the weeks following Victoria’s high-profile arrest, the chaos slowly yielded to a sweet, peaceful rhythm. The media firestorm eventually faded, replaced by quiet afternoons at the Gold Coast estate.
I officially moved into the mansion—not as a guest or an employee, but as the co-parent of the Voss triplets. We redesigned the nursery, turning the stark, museum-like floor into a warm, vibrant space filled with bright colors, low bookshelves, and finger paintings hanging proudly on the walls.
Leo, Liam, and Maya thrived. Their sleepless nights vanished, replaced by joyful laughter that echoed through the once-silent corridors of the grand estate.
Yet, as the legal dust settled, a new, unspoken tension began to build between Roman and me.
One stormy November evening, after the children were tucked into their cribs, I found Roman sitting in the dimly lit library, staring into a crackling fireplace with a crystal glass of amber scotch in his hand.
"They're fast asleep," I said softly, leaning against the wooden doorframe.
Roman turned his head, a soft, genuine warmth spreading across his sharp features—a warmth that had completely replaced the cold, unyielding mask he used to wear. "Thank you, Pamela. For everything."
I walked over, sitting on the plush leather sofa opposite him. "For what? You saved us, Roman. You gave me my life back."
"No," Roman said quietly, setting his glass on the side table and looking directly into my eyes. "You saved this house. Before you walked into Bella Rosa that afternoon, this place was just a fortress built on secrets and cold duty. I was raising three boys I cared for, but I didn't know how to give them a real home. You brought life back into these walls. You brought life back into me."
My heart did a strange, exhilarating flip in my chest. "Roman..."
He stood up, walking over to sit beside me on the sofa. The space between us melted away. The warmth of his body, the gentle intensity of his gaze, made my pulse race.
"I know how this began," Roman murmured, reaching out to gently cup my face in his large, warm hand. "It began with a crime, a tragic mistake, and a desperate search for truth. But somewhere amidst all the madness... I fell completely in love with you, Pamela."
My breath hitched. "You... you love me?"
"I love your strength," Roman whispered, his thumb lightly stroking my lower lip. "I love the way you laugh with our children. I love the way you stood up to Victoria without flinching. I love every single thing about you. And I don't want us to just be co-parents tied together by a tragedy. I want to build a real life with you."
May you like
Tears gathered in my eyes—not tears of sorrow or grief, but tears of pure, overwhelming joy. I leaned forward, closing the small distance between us, and pressed my lips to his.
The kiss was slow, deep, and electric, sweeping away every remaining shadow of our painful past.
