Chapter 7 - The Arrival of Justice

Before Marcus’s men could coordinate a secondary breach of the main doors, the sound of rhythmic, heavy rotor blades sliced through the mountain air. Two massive black Sikorsky helicopters bearing the seal of the Federal Bureau of Investigation dropped out of the gray clouds, hovering low over the estate’s open courtyard.

Flash-bangs detonated in quick succession as elite FBI tactical teams rappelled down thick ropes, landing with absolute precision behind Marcus’s mercenary line. At the same time, a fleet of federal armored vehicles crashed through the ruined outer gates, completely surrounding the Vale Corporation convoy.

"Federal agents! Drop your weapons! Hands on your heads!" the megaphone commanded.

The firefight was over before it truly began. Marcus’s mercenaries, realizing they were completely outgunned by the United States government, threw down their automatic rifles and surrendered into the snow.

Marcus stood alone in the center of the driveway, his arms raised slowly as three federal marshals tackled him to the frozen ground, pinning his face into the very snow where Elena had lain dying just hours before. They slammed the heavy steel cuffs around his wrists, stripping him of his expensive overcoat and his executive dignity.

Assistant Director Vance stepped out of the lead tactical vehicle, his boots crunching against the ice as he walked up to the terrace doors, which I threw open.

"We have the perimeter secured, Adrian," the director said, shaking my hand firmly. "The data your team transmitted was fully verified by the federal courts at 5:00 AM. We have active arrest warrants being executed right now at the Vale headquarters in Chicago, New York, and London. The entire syndicate is being dismantled as we speak."

I nodded, a profound sense of relief washing over me. "Thank you, Director. There’s one more operative inside. Veronica Vance is upstairs. She was the digital mole inside this house."

The director signaled his agents. "Extract her. We’ll process them both at the federal holding facility in Denver."

As Veronica was dragged down the grand staircase in handcuffs, her silk gown wrinkled and her face stained with tears of rage, she didn't look at me. She couldn't. She looked only at the floor, knowing she had traded her freedom for a monster’s empty promises.
