Chapter 5 - Unraveling

The fallout from the deposition was swift and catastrophic for Lorraine.
When the transcript of her outburst was shared during the preliminary court hearing, the judge dismissed her petition for grandparent visitation rights with prejudice, calling her suit "bad faith litigation driven by personal malice rather than the child’s best interests." The judge went further, ordering Lorraine to pay all of our legal fees.

My suspension was lifted immediately, accompanied by a formal written apology from the executive board and a promotion to Senior Program Director.
One by one, the rest of the family began to break away from Lorraine’s grip.
Uncle Richard called Travis to apologize, confessing that Lorraine had been holding an old business loan over his head for a decade to keep him compliant. Inspired by Travis’s stand, Richard secured a independent bank loan, paid Lorraine off in full, and cut off contact.
