Chapter 2 - Freezing the Empire

Five minutes later, the wail of sirens echoed up the long, tree-lined driveway of Crestview Estates.
Red and blue lights flashed violently through the sheer linen curtains of the grand foyer as two police cruisers and a paramedics unit pulled up to the front entrance.
Vanessa ran to the top of the marble staircase, looking down at the front door as four uniformed officers and two EMTs rushed inside.
"Daniel, please!" she begged, turning to me, her voice breaking into pathetic, desperate sobs as she dropped to her knees on the Persian rug. "Don't do this to me! I'll go to therapy! I'll apologize to your mother! I'll do whatever you want! Think about our marriage! Eight years, Daniel!"
"Our marriage died the second you placed a hand on my mother," I said, walking past her without looking down.
I opened the front door, guiding the EMTs directly up the stairs to my mother’s locked room. I unlocked the door, letting the paramedics rush in with their medical gear.
Elena was still kneeling on the floor beside my mother's bed, holding her fragile, thin hand, whispering words of comfort in Spanish. When the paramedics took over, Elena stood up, her uniform wrinkled and stained, her hair messy from where Vanessa had grabbed her.
"Mr. Vance," Officer Harrison, a veteran sergeant, said, stepping into the room. "Can you tell me what happened here?"
"My wife, Vanessa Vance, has been systematically abusing, starving, and locking up my bedridden mother for months," I said flatly. "Her maid, Elena Ruiz, attempted to shield my mother today and was also physically assaulted. I have high-definition cloud video evidence covering the entire duration."
Sergeant Harrison looked at my mother's bruised face, then looked at Elena's disheveled hair, his jaw tightening with dark fury.
"Where is your wife, sir?"
"In the hallway."
Within two minutes, the sound of steel handcuffs clicking rang out through the grand corridor, followed by Vanessa’s shrill, frantic shrieks.
"Get your filthy hands off me!" Vanessa screamed as two officers escorted her down the marble staircase in cuffs. "Do you know who I am?! I am Vanessa Vance! My husband is the CEO of Valeon Technologies! Daniel, tell them to stop! Tell them!"
I didn't answer her. I stood beside the gurney as the paramedics carefully lifted my mother onto the stretcher, wrapping her in warm blankets.
While they wheeled my mother toward the ambulance, I pulled out my phone and placed a call to Julian Vance—my chief legal counsel and long-time estate trustee.
"Julian," I said as soon as he picked up. "Initiate Emergency Protocol Delta."
There was a sharp pause on the line. "Delta? Daniel... that means complete financial isolation."
"Execute it immediately," I commanded. "Freeze every credit card, bank account, and secondary trust allowance associated with Vanessa Vance. Revoke her power of attorney, lock her out of all company-owned properties, and notify our banking partners that any transaction attempted under her name is unauthorized."
"Consider it done," Julian replied crisply. "What about her personal accounts?"
"The ones funded by her monthly spousal stipend?" I smiled coldly. "Those belong to the Vance Family Irrevocable Trust. The trust agreement explicitly states that any beneficiary indicted on felony charges against a primary grantor forfeits all access instantly."

"I'll have the freezing injunctions served at the precinct before her booking process is finished," Julian said. "What about the divorce filing?"
"Have it on my desk by eight o'clock tomorrow morning," I said, watching the police cruiser tail lights vanish down the dark driveway. "And make sure it includes a full civil lawsuit for physical assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and elder abuse."
