Chapter 10 - White Roses (Conclusion)

Later that afternoon, as the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a warm golden glow across the rolling hills of the cemetery, Lena walked alone up the quiet stone path.

She carried a large bouquet of fresh white roses—Maya’s favorite flowers—tied with a long, pale pink silk ribbon.

The grass around the marble headstone was green and lush, trimmed neatly under the shade of a massive, ancient oak tree.

Engraved into the smooth white marble were two names:

MAYA BROOKS-VOSS

Beloved Daughter, Sister, and Protector

LILY BROOKS

An Angel Before Her Time

"Love is as strong as death, its fire an unquenchable flame."

Lena knelt down on the cool grass. She carefully laid the white roses at the base of the monument, adjusting the pink ribbon so it rested gently against the stone, echoing the small ribbon she had touched on the day of the funeral.

The cool spring breeze rustled through the oak leaves above, sending a warm, soft whisper across the quiet hillside.

Lena rested her hand against the warm marble, looking up at the golden sunset illuminating the horizon.

"It’s over, Maya," Lena whispered softly, her voice filled with an absolute, beautiful peace. "He will never hurt anyone again. The foundation is open, Mom and Dad are smiling again, and the world knows the truth about who you were."

She closed her eyes, feeling the gentle warmth of the sunlight resting against her face like a soft, comforting embrace.

For the first time in a year, Lena didn't feel the weight of badges, evidence bags, or courtrooms. She felt only the deep, unshakeable bond of a sister’s love—a love that had walked through the darkest valley of death, shattered every lie, and brought justice home at last.

Lena stood up slowly, smoothed down her white jacket, and turned to walk down the sunlit path toward her waiting family, leaving the white roses blooming in the quiet, peaceful light.
