Chapter 10 - The Sun Rises

Ten years after that desperate cold day in February, the grand dining hall of a Manhattan hotel was filled with bright lights, flowers, and applause.
It was my graduation day from Columbia University Law School.
I stood at the podium in my black gown, looking out at the crowd. In the front row sat Grandma Rose, proud and glowing; beside her was ten-year-old Eli, wearing a tiny suit and waving wildly at me.
And next to them stood Vincent Moretti, his dark hair tinged with grey at the temples, wearing a look of quiet, unyielding pride.
"A decade ago," I began into the microphone, my voice steady and clear, "I walked into a restaurant with a hungry baby strapped to my chest, begging for crumbs from a stranger’s plate. I thought that day was the end of my story."
The crowd went silent, listening intently.
"But that stranger didn't give me leftovers. He gave us a home. He gave us protection, an education, and above all, a father's unconditional love."
I looked directly at Vincent, tears of gratitude shining in my eyes.

As the room erupted into cheers, Vincent stood up, smiling warmly. The dark boss of the past was gone; in his place was simply a proud father, waiting to embrace the daughter who had brought light into his shadowed world.
