Chapter 4 - A fragile Normalcy

Back at the estate, Vincent was a completely different man.

"How are your math studies, Lily?" Vincent asked one evening, slicing his steak.
"I finished three chapters today," I said proudly. "And Eli laughed for the first time!"
A rare, genuine smile touched Vincent's lips. "Good. You’re smart, Lily. You’re going to go to the best university in this country one day."
Grandma Rose looked at Vincent thoughtfully. "You give us so much, Mr. Moretti. But I worry about the danger you live in."
"Call me Vincent, Rose," he replied. "And do not worry. My house is a fortress. Nothing gets in."

Unknown to Vincent, a rogue insider within his network had noticed the sudden arrival of an elderly woman and two children at the boss’s private residence. Word reached Julian Vane, the leader of the rival syndicate.
"Moretti has a weakness now," Julian Vane sneered in a darkened office across town. "A sick old woman and two orphan kids. Find out when they leave the estate."
