Chapter 3 - The Corrupt Star

Just as the sun broke over the fog-draped peaks the following morning, three Washington State deputy cruisers screeched to a halt outside the compound's front gates, sirens blaring across the valley.

The corrupt county sheriff—Derek’s primary insider—stepped out of his vehicle, brandishing a fraudulent warrant for Khloe's immediate arrest on fabricated charges of grand auto theft and child abduction.

Brick casually stepped out through the pedestrian gate, hands tucked into his leather cut, flanked by ten silent, broad-shouldered bikers.

"Step aside, Brick!" the sheriff shouted through his megaphone. "We have a felony warrant for Khloe Jenkins! Hand her and the child over, or I'm charging this entire club with harboring a fugitive!"

Brick let out a slow, cold smirk. He reached into his coat pocket and tossed a thick folder through the steel bars of the gate.

"Your warrant isn't worth the paper it's printed on in Idaho, Sheriff," Brick said, his low baritone carrying effortlessly across the gravel driveway. "And more importantly, our legal counsel filed a petition with the Federal District Court at midnight. That folder contains bank records showing fifty thousand dollars wired from Derek Lawson's shell company to your wife's account two weeks ago. The FBI Regional Office is already en route."

The sheriff’s face drained from deep crimson to a sickly, pale white. He stared at the folder on the ground, then looked up into Brick's unblinking eyes. He knew the game was up. Without uttering another word, he turned on his heel, scrambled back into his cruiser, and sped down the mountain pass with his sirens silenced.
