Chapter 10 - The Drive into the Sunset

That evening, as the golden hour turned the Miami sky into a canvas of pink, orange, and purple, Nathan, Clara, and I drove down the coastal highway toward Key West.
The ocean waved softly against the highway barriers, spraying a light mist into the warm evening air.
Nathan was driving my blue 2024 BMW X5.
I sat in the passenger seat, my window rolled down halfway, letting the warm ocean breeze sweep through my hair. In the back seat, Clara was fast asleep in her car seat, clutching a soft plush bunny against her chest.
Nathan reached across the center console, wrapping his fingers through mine.
"Happy, Em?" he asked, looking over at me with a soft, loving smile.
I looked down at our linked hands, then looked at the sleek dashboard of the car that had once been the center of so much pain and conflict.
Now, the car was just a car.
The money was just money.
And the family that had tried to destroy me was nothing more than a faint memory fading in the rearview mirror.
"I’m more than happy, Nathan," I replied, leaning my head against his shoulder as the car glided smoothly down the open highway. "I'm free."

We drove on into the setting sun, where the road was wide, the horizon was clear, and the future belonged entirely to us.
