Chapter 10 - The Home We Built

One year later.
The afternoon sun cast a warm, golden light across the lush green lawns of the Cole Country Estate—a breathtaking historic property overlooking the river, far away from the noise and concrete of the city.
In the backyard, a joyous garden party was in full swing.
Jonathan Vance was barbecueing steaks on the stone patio, while Mrs. Gable—who had been fully exonerated after proving she had been blackmailed by Julian—was arranging fresh flowers on long white banquet tables.
Mateo, now a healthy, energetic twenty-month-old toddler, was running across the grass in a small linen suit, chasing the family’s golden retriever puppy, laughing with pure, musical delight.
"Careful, little man!" Adrian called out with a warm chuckle, walking across the lawn holding two glasses of chilled sparkling lemonade.
Adrian looked completely transformed. The shadows under his eyes were gone, replaced by a radiant, peaceful strength. He had stepped down as active CEO of Cole Enterprises, turning the day-to-day operations over to Jonathan’s security firm, choosing instead to focus entirely on family and managing Clara’s charitable foundation for underprivileged mothers.
Adrian walked up to Lucía, who was sitting on a wooden bench under a large oak tree, wearing a gorgeous floral sundress.
He handed her a glass of lemonade, then sat down beside her, wrapping his arm around her waist. Lucía leaned her head comfortably against his broad shoulder.
"Look at him," Lucía murmured softly, watching Mateo attempt to throw a tennis ball to the puppy. "He’s growing so fast."
"He has Clara’s spirit," Adrian smiled, pressing a soft kiss to Lucía’s temple. "And he has his mother’s brave heart."
Lucía looked up into Adrian’s amber eyes. "I still think back to that morning in Suite 904. I was so terrified. I thought my life was over because I brought a baby in a cleaning cart."
Adrian laughed gently, pulling her closer against his chest. "That cleaning cart brought me the greatest miracle of my life, Lucía. It brought me my nephew... and it brought me the woman I love."
Adrian reached into his pocket and pulled out a velvet-lined jewelry box. He popped it open to reveal a stunning, brilliant-cut diamond ring that sparkled like fire under the summer sun.
Lucía’s breath caught in her throat. Her eyes filled with happy tears.
"Lucía Herrera," Adrian spoke softly, his voice trembling with profound devotion. "You saved Mateo when he had no one. You brought light into my dark world. I don't want to just share this house with you; I want to share my entire life, my name, and my heart with you. Will you marry me and make our family official?"
Lucía looked from the sparkling ring to the man who had fought the world to protect her and her child.
"Yes, Adrian," Lucía whispered, her voice overflowing with love. "Yes! A thousand times, yes!"
Adrian slipped the ring onto her finger and pulled her into a deep, tender kiss.
From across the lawn, Mateo came trotting over on his chubby toddler legs, holding his plush blue bear, plocking himself down between Adrian’s knees, babbling happily: "Daddy! Mommy! Doggy run!"

Adrian laughed out loud, scooping both Lucía and Mateo into his arms, crushing them against his heart in a warm, unbreakable embrace.
The dark shadows of grief, fear, and hiding were gone forever. Standing together under the warm summer sky, their true, beautiful life had just begun.
