Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Bond

That evening, as the sun set over the hills, casting a golden-orange glow across the wide lawns of the Caruso estate, the house was filled with the sounds of laughter and music.
For the first time in years, the grand dining room was dressed for a celebration. Mrs. Gable served fresh pasta, warm garlic bread, and homemade tiramisu. Marco and the house staff sat at the table alongside Vincenzo and Arya, dining not as a boss and his subordinates, but as a family that had survived the dark and stepped into the light together.
After dinner, Arya walked out onto the vast green terrace overlooking the valley.
Ghost trotted at her side, his heavy tail wagging lazily. The cool evening breeze carried the scent of fresh pine and sweet jasmine.
Vincenzo stepped out onto the terrace, holding two mugs of warm hot chocolate. He handed one to his daughter, leaning against the stone balustrade beside her to watch the stars appear in the darkening sky.
"What are you thinking about, my little bird?" Vincenzo asked softly.
Arya took a sip of her drink, looking out over the peaceful city below. "I was thinking about the day we went to the shelter," she said softly. "You didn't want to let me go to the back cages."
Vincenzo chuckled, a deep, warm sound. "It was the best mistake I ever made in my life."
"It wasn't a mistake, Papa," Arya said, turning to look at him with her mother's bright, crinkling eyes. "It was fate. Ghost was waiting for us."
Ghost let out a soft huff, laying down on the warm stone flags of the terrace, resting his chin on Arya’s shoes just as he had done on the very first day in the armored Escalade.
Arya knelt beside her guardian, burying her face in his thick fur, listening to the steady, rhythmic beat of his powerful heart. Ghost wrapped his massive tail around her legs, keeping her safe, anchored, and loved.

Vincenzo looked up at the stars, feeling a deep, profound sense of peace settle over his soul. The monsters of the past were gone. The violence had quieted. His daughter had her voice back, her life back, and a smile that lit up the dark.
And standing guard over them all, silent, watchful, and entirely unbreakable, was the dog that no one wanted—the hound that had saved them all.
