Chapter 9 - A Legacy of Strength

Three years later.
The air was crisp and sweet with the smell of autumn leaves as I walked through the park holding four-year-old Leo’s hand.
He was a bright, energetic boy who loved building Lego towers, chasing our golden retriever across the lawn, and asking endless questions about how skyscrapers were built.
He knew nothing of the dark night at the top of the stairs three years ago. He knew only that his mother was a builder, that his home was safe, and that he was loved beyond measure.
We stopped near the edge of the park pond, where ducks were swimming across the quiet water.
"Mommy?" Leo asked, looking up at me with his big, clear eyes. "Why is our foundation called the Bennett Foundation?"
I knelt on the soft grass beside him, wrapping my arms around his little shoulders, pulling him close against my chest.
"Because 'Bennett' means strong, my sweet boy," I told him, smoothing down his dark hair. "It means that no matter how dark the night gets, or how tricky people try to be, we always stand up, we always tell the truth, and we build something good for the world."

Leo smiled, hugging my neck tightly. "I want to be a builder like you when I grow up, Mommy."
"You already are, Leo," I whispered, kissing his forehead. "You built my whole life."
