Chapter 10 - Ever After

Three years later.
The golden afternoon sun was shining brightly over the rolling green hills of our estate in Italy, overlooking the stunning, crystal-blue waters of Lake Como.
The air was sweet with the fragrance of blooming jasmine and olive trees. A long wooden dining table was set up under a canopy of grapevines, laden with fresh pasta, warm bread, bowls of ripe berries, and bottles of fine Italian wine.
Around the table was the sound of sweet, chaotic family life.
My father sat at the head of the table, patiently teaching five-year-old Leo how to roll spaghetti onto a fork without dropping it onto his clean white shirt.
Luca was chasing a fluffy Golden Retriever puppy through the grass, his loud, joyful laughter echoing across the garden, while Mia sat beside Maria, meticulously painting watercolor flowers onto a sketch pad.
I stood on the stone balcony overlooking the lake, holding a glass of iced lemonade, watching my family.
A pair of strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind, pulling me back against a warm, solid chest. Alexander rested his chin gently on my shoulder, breathing in the scent of my hair.
"What are you looking at, my queen?" he murmured softly, his voice full of quiet contentment.
"At my miracle," I replied, leaning back into his embrace, placing my hand over his where it rested against my waist.
Alexander smiled, kissing my neck gently. "Which one? The view, the kids, or the fact that your father just let Leo splash pasta sauce all over his designer linen pants without getting mad?"
I laughed softly, turning around in his arms to face him.
At thirty-six, Alexander was more handsome than the day I met him. A few silver threads at his temples only enhanced his noble, striking appearance, but his eyes—those deep, brilliant blue eyes—were filled with the exact same passionate, unwavering love that had saved me years ago.
"All of it," I said, gazing into his eyes. "Sometimes I still catch myself waiting to wake up. I spent so many years in the dark, Alexander. I thought happiness was something meant for other people."
Alexander cupped my face in his warm, strong hands, his thumb gently caressing my cheek.
"You were never meant for the dark, Elena," he said, his voice deep and full of emotion. "You are the light of this family. You built this life out of your own strength, your own grace, and your unbreakable heart. Me, the kids, your dad... we are all just lucky enough to live in your warmth."
He leaned down, pressing his lips to mine in a long, tender, passionate kiss that tasted like summer and forever.
"Mommy! Daddy!" Mia’s sweet voice called out, breaking our kiss.
We turned to see our three five-year-olds running toward us across the stone terrace, their cheeks rosy from playing, their eyes shining with pure delight.
"Look what we found!" Luca shouted, holding up a large, smooth lake stone shaped like a heart. "It's a heart stone for you, Mommy!"
"Because we love you ten hundred thousand million!" Leo declared, jumping up and down.
Alexander and I both dropped down to our knees, opening our arms wide. The three toddlers piled into us, covering our faces with sticky, sweet kisses and chaotic hugs, while the puppy barked happily around our feet and my father watched from the table with a smile full of tears.
I looked at my husband, who was holding our children close, laughing with pure, unfiltered joy.
I had stepped into my ex-husband’s wedding expecting a battle.
I had walked out with my justice.
