Chapter 9 - The Legacy Reclaimed

The fifth anniversary of the day I first arrived at the estate was a quiet, celebratory affair. We held a small dinner in the garden, with the people who had stood by me through the fire.
There was no tension, no fear. Just the laughter of friends and the soft glow of lanterns in the trees.
I looked around the table—Marcus Sterling, our lead legal council, Julian Anderson, and the executive team. They were more than business associates. They were the people who had helped me navigate the storm.
I stood up, holding a glass of wine.
"Five years ago," I said, my voice steady, "I was a woman with nothing but a newborn and a heart full of fear. I came to this house looking for a home, and I found a battlefield. But today, I look around this table and I see not just survival, but thriving."
I raised my glass.
"To the Vance Group," I said. "And to the future."
The toast echoed in the quiet garden.
After the dinner, I walked out to the edge of the property, looking down at the creek that ran through the woods. The water was clear and cool, flowing steadily toward the river.
I felt a presence behind me. It was Eleanor.
"You look like your grandmother," she said, a faint smile on her lips. "The one who built this place with nothing but sheer will."
"I am her," I said.

She leaned against the railing beside me. "What’s next, Olivia?"
"Next?" I said, looking at the stars. "Next is the world."
