Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Horizon

One year later.

The sun was setting over the rolling hills of Tuscany, Italy.

The private terrace of a restored sixteenth-century villa was bathed in warm gold and amber light. The air was rich with the scent of blooming jasmine, wild rosemary, and fresh olive trees.

A long wooden table was set with rustic Italian pottery, fresh grapes, imported cheeses, and bottles of local Chianti.

Sitting around the table were my closest friends: Jenna, Marcus Vance, Victoria Sterling, and several of my lead architectural partners.

I sat at the head of the table, wearing an elegant ivory linen dress, my hair flowing softly in the evening breeze.

Beside me sat Marcus. Over the past eighteen months, our professional alliance had naturally evolved into something quiet, deep, and beautifully genuine—a relationship built on absolute transparency, mutual respect, and unshakeable trust.

Marcus reached over, his large, warm hand gently covering mine on the table. He looked at me with deep, quiet devotion.

"To new beginnings," Marcus said, raising his glass.

Everyone around the table raised their glasses, their laughter and toasts echoing warmly under the starlit Italian sky.

"To Claire," Victoria smiled, winking at me. "The woman who rebuilt her castle using the rocks her enemies threw at her."

I laughed—a real, rich sound that came straight from my heart.

I looked down at my hand resting in Marcus’s, then looked out over the sprawling green valley of Tuscany as the stars began to twinkle in the dark violet sky.

Five years ago, I thought my life had ended in a hospital room. I thought love was a lie, and grief was my permanent home.

Now, standing on the foundation of my own strength, I knew the truth.

The past could not trap me. The lies could not break me. I had reclaimed my life, my name, and my future—and under the open, infinite sky, I was finally, beautifully home.
