Chapter 3 - The Secret Empire

The corporate world was in a state of shock. The mysterious "Giga-Investor" of the tech and logistics world had finally revealed herself, and she was a twenty-six-year-old mother of twins.

Elle did not hide away. The very next day, she scheduled a massive press conference at the Vertex headquarters. She arrived looking radiant, flanked by her security detail. The media circus was intense. Photographers blinded her with flashes, but this time, she didn't shrink away. She embraced the spotlight.

"Mrs. Collins! Or should we call you Ms. Vance-Rothschild?" a reporter shouted. "Is it true you orchestrated your husband's entire career just to strip it away in a single day?"

Elle stood at the podium, smiling calmly. "I did not ruin my ex-husband's career. He ruined it himself the moment he decided that success gave him the right to treat human beings with cruelty. Vertex Dynamics was built on the values of innovation, hard work, and mutual respect. Mr. Collins proved he lacked all three."

She went on to announce a multimillion-dollar initiative within the company to support working mothers, providing paid parental leave, on-site childcare facilities, and flexible wellness programs. The public response was overwhelmingly positive. Overnight, Elle became an icon for women worldwide.

While Elle's star rose, Ryan was sinking into the gutter. He had found a cheap, damp motel on the outskirts of the city, using up the last bit of money he managed to scrape from an old account she had missed. The room smelled of stale smoke and cheap disinfectant.

He spent his days staring at the television, watching his ex-wife dominate the news. Every time her face appeared on the screen, looking beautiful, powerful, and utterly out of his reach, a toxic mixture of regret and fury burned in his throat.

"She played me," he whispered fiercely to the empty room. "She let me look like a fool. She trapped me."

He refused to see his own fault. In his mind, he wasn't the villain; he was the victim of a calculated, vindictive woman. He picked up his cheap burner phone and called his mother, Clara Collins, a woman known for her sharp tongue and manipulative nature.

"Mom," Ryan choked out, playing the victim perfectly. "Elle took everything. She took the company, the house, the money, and she's keeping my children from me. I'm living in a dump."

Clara gasped on the other end. "What?! That quiet little mouse did this? I knew she was trouble from the moment she refused to let me run the baby shower! Don't worry, Ryan. She might have the money, but we have the law. We will take those babies, and we will sue her for every single penny of alimony she owes you. She wants a war? We'll give her one."
