Chapter 7 - The Trap at the Gala

The Vertex Maternal Foundation Gala was the event of the season. Grand ice sculptures decorated the ballroom of the Horizon Palace, and the guest list included dignitaries, celebrities, and top CEOs. The theme was empowerment, and the room was filled with laughter and the clinking of crystal glasses.

Elle looked breathtaking. She wore a emerald-green silk gown that flowed like water, with a diamond necklace that caught every light in the room. She stood at the center of a group of international investors, speaking eloquently about corporate responsibility.

Suddenly, a commotion broke out near the entrance.

"Let me through! I just want to see my wife! I want to see my children!"

The crowd parted as Ryan stumbled into the ballroom. He looked intentionally disheveled, his jacket open, his eyes wild with theatrical tears. Behind him, several hidden photographers began snapping pictures furiously.

Ryan threw himself onto his knees right on the polished marble floor, sliding toward Elle.

"Elle! Please!" Ryan cried out, his voice echoing through the silent ballroom. "I am begging you for mercy! I made a mistake! I was arrogant, I was blind! But please don't keep my babies from me! Don't let your wealth destroy our family! I love you, Elle! I’ve always loved you!"

Clara Collins appeared from the crowd, wiping her eyes. "Please, everyone, look at what this billionaire woman is doing to a normal, broken man! She used her power to crush him!"

The guests murmured, uncomfortable and confused. The paparazzi cameras flashed rapidly, capturing Ryan’s pathetic display. Ryan looked down at the floor, a secret, victorious smirk hidden from the crowd. He thought he had won. He thought he had forced her into a corner.

Elle didn't move. She didn't look shocked, embarrassed, or angry. She stood perfectly still, looking down at him with an expression of pure, unadulterated pity.

"Are you finished, Ryan?" she asked quietly.

Ryan looked up, blinking. "Elle... please, just give me a chance..."

Elle raised her hand, signaling the tech booth. "Turn on the main displays, please."

The massive screens around the ballroom, which had been showing images of charity work, suddenly shifted. They displayed a series of financial transactions and recorded phone calls dated just forty-eight hours ago.

It was a recording of Ryan and his mother talking to the paparazzi coordinator.

Ryan's voice played clearly through the high-end sound system: “Once I cry on the floor, you make sure to get the photos of her looking cold. We’ll sell them to the tabloids for a hundred grand, and then her legal team will have to pay us millions to shut up. I don't give a damn about the kids, I just need the settlement.”

The entire ballroom went dead silent. The guests stared at Ryan with absolute horror and disgust. The very photographers Ryan had hired stopped snapping, realizing they had been caught in a setup.

Ryan’s face turned from pale to completely white. He tried to stand up, but his knees felt like lead.

"You thought you could weaponize public opinion against me, Ryan," Elle said, her voice cutting through the silence like a diamond blade. "You thought because I am a woman and a mother, I would be terrified of a scandal. But you forgot one thing: I don't just run this company. I run the world you are trying to play in."

Elle looked at Marcus, her security chief. "Remove these grifters from my sight. And turn this footage over to the police for attempted extortion and harassment."

Ryan and Clara were dragged out of the ballroom, screaming and cursing, while the elite crowd erupted into a thunderous applause for Elle. Her victory was absolute.
