Chapter 7 - Reclaiming the Sterling Crest

The board of directors meeting at the Sterling Headquarters was the first one I had attended since my father’s passing. The massive mahogany table was surrounded by twenty of the city’s top financial minds, all of them looking nervous, their eyes shifting between me and the empty executive chair at the head of the room.
I walked into the room with Leo and Maya secured in their double stroller, pushed by a uniformed nanny Julian had vetted through his highest security clearance. Julian walked beside me, wearing a flawless gray suit, his presence preventing any of the old board members from attempting to minimize my authority.
"Miss Sterling," the senior board member said, standing up with a slight bow. "We are deeply relieved by your safety. The board has voted unanimously to restore your full executive rights as the primary shareholder and chairperson of the Sterling Corporation."
"Thank you, Mr. Gable," I said, taking my seat at the head of the table—my father’s old chair. "But let's be clear about one thing. This company is going through a complete systemic purge. Every executive who signed off on Derek’s unauthorized transfers over the last six months is dismissed effective immediately. Your credentials are revoked, and your personal accounts will be audited by the federal task force."
Several board members turned pale, but no one dared object. The "Freezer Twins" story had made me an icon of public resilience; a single public complaint from me could destroy any of their remaining reputations.
"We also have a new corporate partner," I continued, nodding toward Julian. "The Vance Development Group has acquired a forty percent stake in our logistics division. We are combining our shipping resources to create a completely transparent, ethically managed supply chain that will never again be used to conceal criminal enterprises."

Julian stood up, his deep voice carrying an absolute certainty that filled the room. "We are going to rebuild the Sterling name from the foundation up. And anyone who thinks they can manipulate this family again will have to answer to the entire Vance network."
As the meeting concluded and the board members filed out, I looked around the empty boardroom. The portraits of my father on the wall seemed to look down at me with a soft, proud approval. I had saved his company, I had saved his grandchildren, and I had permanently locked out the parasite who tried to erase us.
