Chapter 8 - The Courtroom Showdown
The trial at the Ada County Courthouse was short, brutal, and decisive.
Mark sat at the defense table in an orange jumpsuit, flanked by a public defender who looked like he wished he were anywhere else in the world. Martha and Brenda sat in the gallery, weeping quietly and avoiding eye contact with everyone.
Arthur Vance presented our evidence with surgical precision.
"Your Honor," Arthur declared, addressing the judge. "The defendant, Mark Miller, engaged in a systemic pattern of spousal fraud, grand larceny attempt, bank forgery, and bigamy. We have testimony from the second victim, Melanie Vance, as well as forensic accounting records proving the plaintiff, Jessica Miller, was the sole financial contributor to all marital assets."
When Melanie took the witness stand, Mark stared at her in utter disbelief. She testified under oath, detailing how Mark had fabricated court documents, lied about his wealth, and coerced her into signing credit applications under false pretenses.

The judge, a stern woman with decades on the bench, looked down at Mark with absolute disdain.
"Mr. Miller," Judge Vance stated, her voice echoing through the silent courtroom. "In my twenty-five years on the bench, rarely have I seen a case of such arrogant deceit and gross financial malice. You exploited your wife's hard work, attempted to steal her home, lied to another woman, and defrauded your employer."
