Chapter 10 - Healing and New Beginnings

Six months later, the quiet of my home felt completely different. It was no longer a quiet of loneliness or survival; it was a quiet of peace, power, and freedom.
I used the money saved from no longer supporting a deadbeat husband to completely remodel the house. The old living room where I used to sleep on the couch was transformed into a sunlit reading library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and cozy leather armchairs.
My career at the dairy firm flourished. Recognized for my sharp analytical skills and unwavering composure under pressure, I was promoted to Chief Financial Officer.
One evening, Mr. Donovan, the locksmith who had upgraded my security system on that fateful 4:00 a.m. morning, stopped by to conduct a routine check on the perimeter sensors.
