Chapter 8 - REBUILDING FROM THE ASHES

Two months later.

The transition of leadership at Harrison Global Enterprises was flawless. With Arthur Vance locked away in a high-security Swiss prison facing life sentences for international terrorism and money laundering, Corvus Holdings was completely liquidated. Its billions in assets were absorbed into a new charitable trust created by Harrison Global: The Eleanor & Emma Foundation.

The foundation was dedicated to helping mothers in crisis, victims of domestic abuse, and funding advanced search-and-rescue teams across the Rocky Mountains, ensuring that no one trapped in the cold would ever be left without hope.

On a warm Saturday morning, I stood on the wide mahogany deck of my new home—a stunning, glass-and-timber estate nestled in the quiet foothills outside Denver, surrounded by pine trees and golden sunlight.

William walked out onto the deck, carrying two mugs of hot coffee, handing one to me.

"The board of directors unanimously approved your new green energy initiative this morning," William said proudly, leaning against the wooden railing beside me. "They are calling you the most brilliant CEO Harrison Global has seen in fifty years."

"I had a very good teacher," I smiled, taking a sip of the warm coffee.

"How are you feeling, Emma?" my father asked softly, his eyes filled with genuine concern. "Really feeling?"

I looked out over the sweeping mountain vistas in the distance. Mount Elbert stood tall against the blue sky, its snow-capped peak glowing white under the sun. For months, that mountain had been the setting of my absolute worst nightmare—the place where my heart had been shattered and my body broken.

But now, looking at it, I no longer felt fear. I no longer felt the ice in my chest.

"I feel free, father," I answered honestly, turning to look at him. "For a long time, I thought my life was defined by the pain Victor caused me. But now I realize that mountain wasn't where my life ended. It was where my true life began. It brought me back to you. It gave me the strength to protect my son. And it taught me who I truly am."

From inside the house, the sweet, soft sound of Leo giggling echoed through the open glass doors. Marcus Vance was sitting on the living room rug, gently shaking a colorful wooden rattle for my baby boy, his tough security guard persona completely melting away into that of a doting uncle.

William smiled warmly, a soft tear of happiness glistening in his eye. "Your mother would be so proud of you, Emma. She is watching us right now, knowing that her daughter is safe, loved, and victorious."

"We built something beautiful out of the ashes, father," I said, putting my hand over his. "And no one will ever take it away from us again."
