Chapter 10 - A Life Reclaimed (Happy Ending)

One year later.

A warm, gentle breeze blew across the rolling green hills of Victoria and Marcus’s countryside estate in Galena, Illinois. The sky above was a brilliant, cloudless canopy of azure blue.

The spacious backyard was decorated with white silk ribbons, fresh eucalyptus garlands, and blooming white roses. A small, intimate gathering of forty close friends, loyal employees, and family members sat in wooden garden chairs facing a floral arch overlooking the valley.

Marcus stood beside the alter, looking handsome in a tailored navy tuxedo, his twelve-year-old son, Leo, standing proudly beside him as best man.

The soft melody of a acoustic violin began to play.

Victoria walked down the aisle carved through the green grass. She wore a breathtaking A-line gown of ivory silk, simple and elegant, with a sheer lace veil that trailed gently behind her. She held a bouquet of white peonies and lavender.

She did not look back at the shadows of her past. She looked forward, her face radiant with peace, joy, and love.

When she reached the alter, Marcus took her hands in his, his eyes shining with deep emotion.

The officiant smiled, addressing the intimate gathering. “We are gathered here today to celebrate a union not just of two minds, but of two resilient hearts. Victoria and Marcus have shown us that love is not built on grand promises or shallow words, but on quiet loyalty, deep trust, and enduring strength.”

They exchanged their vows—simple, honest words spoken from the depth of their souls.

“I give you this ring,” Marcus said, slipping a gold band onto her finger, “as a promise that I will walk beside you through every storm, celebrate every victory, and cherish every single day we share.”

“I give you this ring,” Victoria replied, her voice steady and full of love, “as a promise that my heart is entirely yours—built on trust, sustained by love, and shared forever.”

“By the power vested in me,” the officiant declared, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!”

Marcus pulled Victoria into his arms, kissing her deeply as their guests erupted into joyful applause and cheers. Rose petals rained down around them in the warm sunlight.

Later that evening, as twilight painted the sky in shades of purple and gold, a bonfire roared softly near the stone patio. Guests laughed, danced to live jazz music, and toasted to the couple’s future.

Victoria stood near the wooden fence at the edge of the property, leaning back against Marcus’s chest as his arms held her securely. Across the lawn, Leo was playing catch with a golden retriever, his laughter ringing clear through the evening air.

Victoria looked up at the vast, peaceful sky.

Three years ago, she had woken up alone in the dark pines, battered and betrayed, believing her life was over. Today, she stood surrounded by true love, unshakeable peace, and a legacy she had built with her own hands.

She turned in Marcus’s arms, resting her cheek against his chest, listening to the steady, comforting beat of his heart.

“What are you thinking about, Mrs. Cole?” Marcus asked softly, kissing the crown of her head.

Victoria looked out over the quiet, beautiful valley bathed in moonlight, a deep, profound serenity filling her soul.

“I’m thinking,” Victoria said with a soft, radiant smile, “that the sky has never been clearer.”
