Chapter 7 - The Capture

The silver van stopped at the edge of Lauren’s property. The side door slid open, and two men dressed in dark clothing stepped out, carrying heavy duffel bags. They didn't look like common thieves; their movements were tactical, silent, and coordinated.
They approached the back porch, unaware that they were walking directly into a trap laid by a woman who had spent her career studying enemy movements.
The moment the first intruder touched the door handle, the floodlights around the house erupted with blinding white light.
"Federal agents! Drop your weapons!" Captain Ross shouted through a megaphone from the driveway.
The intruders spun around, reaching for their holsters.
But Lauren was already moving. She kicked open the back door, her weapon raised. "Do not move! Drop them now!"
The lead intruder fired a shot, the bullet splintering the wooden doorframe inches from Lauren’s head.
Lauren returned fire, her shot catching the man in the leg. He collapsed with a scream, dropping his weapon. The second intruder tried to flee across the lawn, but two military police officers tackled him into the snow, pinning him to the ground.
Within minutes, the street was filled with the flashing lights of military and local police vehicles. The two operatives were handcuffed and loaded into the back of an armored van.
Ethan ran out onto the porch, grabbing Lauren and pulling her into a fierce, desperate hug. He was shaking violently.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" he asked, his voice cracking.
"I'm fine, Ethan," Lauren said, holding him tight. "The threat is neutralized. My team has the encryption keys from their van. We can trace this all the way back to the source."

She looked down the street, where a local news van was already arriving, attracted by the gunfire.
"The story is going to break," Lauren said quietly. "The world is about to find out who I am. And your mother is going to have to answer for her part in this."
