Chapter 6 - The Fall of Apex Horizon

While the family began to heal in Lexington, the corporate fallout from Nathan’s greed exploded across Louisville.
Deprived of his family’s capital and stripped of his corporate position, Nathan’s fragile empire began to crumble like a house of cards in a hurricane. Without the four-million-dollar liquidity line from Sinclair Enterprises, the high-stakes Miami resort deal failed to close on schedule.
Victoria Vance turned on him instantly.
Within forty-eight hours of the eviction notice at the Grandview Residences, Victoria cleared her personal accounts, canceled her partnership with Apex Horizon LLC, and handed over all corporate correspondence to Arthur Sterling’s investigative team in exchange for civil immunity.
On a rainy Tuesday morning, Nathan found himself sitting in a cheap motel room on the outskirts of Louisville. His designer suits were crammed into two battered suitcases, his sports car had been repossessed by the dealer, and his phone was blowing up with frantic messages from creditors, banks, and process servers.
In desperation, he called his father’s office line.
The call went straight to speakerphone in Arthur Sterling’s conference room, where Theodore sat listening alongside his legal team.
"Dad! Dad, please answer!" Nathan’s voice sounded ragged, frantic, bordering on hysterical through the speaker. "Victoria took everything! She cleaned out the Apex account! The banks are threatening to file federal charges against me by Friday!"
Theodore looked at the recording phone on the table. "You brought this upon yourself, Nathan."
"Dad, I'm your only son!" Nathan pleaded, his voice cracking. "You can't let me go to federal prison! Just pay off the four-million-dollar loan! You have the reserves! It’s pocket change for Sinclair Enterprises!"
"That money does not belong to me anymore, Nathan," Theodore replied smoothly, his tone cold and measured. "Two days ago, the Board of Directors voted to transfer forty percent of Sinclair Enterprises' non-voting stock into an irrevocable educational and living trust managed exclusively by Elise."
"What?!" Nathan screamed. "You gave my company to Elise?!"
"She is twice the manager you ever were," Theodore stated firmly. "She raised two incredible children while you were playing big shot in Louisville. She survived on night-shift warehouse work while you spent stolen money on champagne. She has more honor in her little finger than you have displayed in your entire adult life."
"Dad, please—"
"If you want to avoid federal prison, Nathan, you have one single option left," Theodore interrupted coldly. "You will show up at Arthur Sterling’s office tomorrow at 9:00 AM. You will sign the complete divorce decree, surrender all parental rights claims, sign over the Lexington house, and agree to a court-ordered financial restitution plan. If you miss that appointment by one minute, Arthur will hand the forgery file directly to the FBI."
The line went dead as Theodore pressed the end button.

Arthur looked across the table at his friend. "Do you think he’ll show?"
Theodore looked out the window at the gray sky. "Cowards always show up when the fire gets too close to their skin."
