Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

The sunset over the Dallas skyline was a breathtaking tapestry of brilliant orange, deep pink, and royal purple.

The gardens of the Caldwell estate were filled with soft, ambient fairy lights. A small, intimate gathering of close friends—including Marcus, Arthur Pendleton, and the medical staff who had helped save Eleanor—were seated around a beautifully decorated long wooden table.

Eleanor stood at the head of the table, raising a crystal glass of sparkling cider. Her posture was proud and regal.

"A year ago, this house was filled with darkness," Eleanor said, her voice echoing clearly through the quiet garden. "But darkness cannot survive where there is light. My son brought the light back when he came home early. And this beautiful woman," she said, looking at Grace, "sustained that light with her bravery. I want to propose a toast to new beginnings, to justice, and to the family we choose."

Everyone cheered, clinking their glasses together in a warm symphony of joy.

After the dinner, Ryder led Grace away from the crowd, down the stone pathway toward the edge of the rose garden where a grand oak tree stood. The night air was cool and sweet with the scent of blooming jasmine.

"Grace," Ryder said, taking both of her hands in his. His eyes reflected the soft glow of the fairy lights, filled with an intensity that was no longer cold or silent, but warm and profoundly alive.

"Yes, Ryder?" she asked, her heart beating slightly faster.

"When I was in the desert, I thought that security meant building high walls, installing heavy locks, and monitoring everything through a screen," Ryder said softly. "But when I came home and saw you standing between my mother and danger... I realized what real security is. Real security is finding someone who will stand by you in the dark, someone whose heart is pure, and someone who makes you feel safe no matter how bad the storm is."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, elegant velvet box. He knelt down on one knee on the lush green grass. He opened the box to reveal a stunning, brilliant-cut sapphire ring, surrounded by a halo of diamonds—a ring that had belonged to his grandmother, symbolizing loyalty, strength, and eternal devotion.

"Grace, you saved my family. You healed my mother. You brought me back to life. Will you do me the absolute honor of becoming my wife? Will you let me protect you for the rest of our days?"

Tears of pure happiness welled in Grace’s eyes, spilling over her cheeks. She didn't hesitate for even a second.

"Yes, Ryder," she whispered, her voice filled with a profound, joyful certainty. "A thousand times, yes."

As Ryder stood up and slipped the ring onto her finger, pulling her into a deep, passionate embrace, the crowd on the patio erupted into applause and cheers. Up on the balcony, Eleanor stood watching them, a tear of pure happiness rolling down her cheek, knowing that her family was finally whole, finally safe, and beautifully secure.

The past was a closed book, the villains were locked away in darkness, and before them lay a bright, limitless dawn filled with love, laughter, and a peace that could never be broken again.
